Make A Legacy Gift to the Westchester County Historical Society
In five years, the Westchester County Historical Society will celebrate its 150th anniversary. We want to assure that the society continues for another 150 years preserving the history of Westchester County and its residents. Building an operating endowment for the society is the best way to insure its future.
There are two ways to make a Legacy Gift:
IRA Charitable Rollover Opportunity
If you are over 70 1/2 and are required to take a yearly minimum distribution from your retirement account, you can use your IRA to make a charitable rollover. It allows you to transfer any amount up to $100,000 each year to a charitable organization like the Westchester County Historical Society. This gift doesn’t generate income or a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize on your taxes.
All retirement plan assets given to organizations pass income tax-free, allowing the organization to put 100 percent of the funds to work supporting the mission. But, when passed to loved ones, as much as 37 percent can be consumed by income taxes.
Remembering the Westchester County Historical Society in Your Will or Trust
With just one sentence, you can create a legacy that will impact the historical society for years to come. And because the gift doesn’t occur until after your lifetime, it doesn’t affect your current budget. You can also change your mind at any time, making it easy to ensure your gift always aligns with your life circumstances.

Benefit Foundation Shop
The Westchester County Historical Society is partnering with The Benefit Shop Foundation to create a year-round opportunity for the community to donate items and purchase items to raise funds and support the work of WCHS.
Items donated throughout the year to the Westchester County Historical Society become part of periodic auctions conducted by The Benefit Shop Foundation, a 501©3 not-for-profit based in Mt. Kisco, and the proceeds are then donated to local Westchester organizations including the Westchester County Historical Society.
Donations of items (designer furniture, artwork, vintage/fine jewelry, antiques and collectibles) may be made to the Westchester County Historical Society by calling WCHS at (914) 592-4323 or email to arrange pickup or delivery. The public is invited to preview and bid on auction items by going to www.thebenefitshop.org. It is also possible to view items at their Mt. Kisco warehouse prior to sale.
