Community Resources
The County of Westchester is indeed fortunate to have many individuals and institutions dedicated to preserving its rich historical and cultural heritage. Among them are municipal historians, local historical societies, local libraries that hold local history collections and a wide variety of historical sites. We are all working together to assure the future of our past.
In 2006 WCHS was appointed County Historian by the Westchester County Board of Legislators. WCHS performs the duties of County Historian by collecting and preserving material relating to the history of the County and making that material accessible to the public through its publications, programs and website. WCHS acts as an advisor and consultant to local authorities in matters affecting historical resources, works with the County’s municipal historians and local historical associations, and promotes the identification and preservation of historic sites.
